You can have a woodie without having to  restore an expensive original:  Typically a woodie begins with an expensive,  hard-to-find, “basket case” woodie foundation.  An unrestored original can set you back a lot of  money, and it still needs costly restoration.   For a phantom woodie, either a good original front clip or a fiber glass reproduction front-end can be  the starting point.  With a phantom woodie design, it is easy to  execute a chopped look by simply cutting down  the windshield frame and building the car around  it.
